GABRIEL MARTINS

Born in Santos, São Paulo state in the year 1992, Gabriel Martins is a self-taught drummer who fell in Love with the drum set at the age four while listening to his church´s music. From then on, started to use pans as his main instrument until ten years old when he acquired his first set.

In the year 2003, Gabriel amazed the audience at the Batuka! while playing as one of the finalists of the Batukinha! , the festival´s category aimed for drummers up to 13 years old. At only 11 he was appointed the winner by unanimity by a jury of world famous drummers such as: Dom Famularo, Charles Gavin, Jim Chapin, Julio Figueiroa, Sam Aliano and Aquiles Priester.

Dom Famularo on Gabriel: “I had participated in festivals all around the world but the Batuka! in Brazil was the most memorable of them all. The moment I saw Gabriel´s performance, I heard the mother nature speaking through the drums. Gabriel played in a very natural way and with all of his heart. All of the contestants impressed me but with Gabriel it was special; he had something else!”

Since then Gabriel had studied drums at the IBVF having Vera Figueiredo as his mentor. Charles Gavin and Lara Campos, both drummers also collaborate on the studies of this incontestable talent who since the beginning achieved lots of admirers.

Gabriel aspires to travel the world with lots of artists as a session drummer, a perfectly feasible desire once he is such an unquestionable talent
